Milan Spectacle

Anyone who attended the Milan Town Board meeting on Monday evening, August 13th was treated to an exhibition of idiocy by Councilperson Clark. Richard Barrett, Republican candidate for town supervisor, read a statement defending him and the rest of the republican ticket against lies delivered to the press by Boss Williams and Talmage. While Mr. Barrett was reading his statement, Councilperson Clark thought it incumbent of her to give an idiotic performance of leering at the audience, rolling her eyes and doing every other silly gesture she could think of. There is such a thing a courtesy which is supposed to be maintained at a board meeting part of which is when someone has the floor to acknowledge their presence. Apparently Mrs. Clark is not very big in the courtesy department.
Mrs. Clark is leaving Milan for Massachusetts where she will be appreciated. They are not very big on honesty in that state. Supervisor Talmage is also blowing town for Burlington, Vermont. Two of the four that voted for new laws in Milan that would affect every citizen of the town; and they are leaving after the damage is done.
Rather than going to Burlington, Vermont, Mr. Talmage should go to Burlington, Wisconsin the home of the famous Burlington Liars Club. He should take the rest of the gang of four with him; they would make the Liars Hall of Fame.

I was rolling my eyes too that night because of how idiotic Dick Barrett was. How can we expect a guy who says he's a lousy real estate broker to have any idea about town finances? What hs he done in town in the past few years that would give him any idea? How does his experience as a school shrink give him any background in town finance? Where woudl he be if jack Campisi wasn't feeding him all this bullshit about minor bookeeping errors? There is nothing in this guy's background to make anyone think he understands the issues or knows what to do aobut them or that he'd be a competent manager. Why doens't he deal with the real issues, like how he thinks his total lack of experience would do anything to kepp the gravel mine out. And does he really want to keep the mine out? he took the Conservaitve Party endorsement, and at the DEc hearing the chair of that party stood up and told everyone its OK to let Red Wing ruin our town because of how great it will be 15 yeras from now when they give us a park. I don't believe for one minute that you guys are against the mine. Even if you are, I don't believe for one mintue that you know how to do anything to oppose it. We could end up with a mine out of sheer incompetence--but that's what the Republican Pary stands for these days so I guess your just following party orders.

As usual, what a disappointing group of Republican candidates. Barrett stands up at these meetings and says nothing of value, only attacks. He has no background or experience in municipal finance. If he did he would understand the difference between correctable accounting errors, which happen all the time in any town and are quickly caught and corrected, and real problems. The others are just as bad. One is an inexperienced kid who has lived in town for maybe all of a year. The other is a property rights fanatic who sounds good when she reads from her crib sheets but can't keep the issues straight and sounds like an idiot when she has to think on her own.

When will the leftwingers stop demonizing those who disagree with them. Their arrogance and condesention know no bounds. When will it end?

Reading the first two entries, one comes to the conclusion that we have entered "the politics as usual" mode, promised us by Ross Williams in his pathetic attempt at securing community support.

Im not a lefwinger at all. Anyone can see what liars the Republican candidates are.All you need to do is listen. They say they're not connected to real estate interests. That's a huge lie. Dick "I suck at what I do" Barrett says he's a lousy real estate agent in his daughter's agency. Wouldn't their business pick up a lot if they got the listings from the development Red Wing is planning in Clermont, just over the border? And listings from the Carvel develoment, when that comes? Booby Egan's ad business would get the ads for Red Wing and Durst. Boy Wonder Byrne knows that getting in good with Red Wing and the county Republican machine would get him some nice juicy taxpayer-funded low-income housing projects. Maybe he'd like to work on a low-income project for Milan instead of going all the way to Albany all the time. Not one of them has any experience in doing anything except looking out for themselves. they know if they look out for Redwing Paul Doherty will look out for them.

Anonymous 1,2&5 is symptomatic that Milan is pretty on the outside and disgustingly rotten on the inside. While politics in Milan has often been a contact sport, the hateful demonizing of those with opposing views is regretable. A longtime resident, I have never witnessed such vituperation as comes from the current incumbents and their supporters. The best thing that could happen in Milan is for these johnny-come-latelies to lose the election and leave Milan to the good people that made it the nice place it was before they arrived from hell. I'm willing to bet that since they left where they came from, that neighborhood has improved.

I guess youd rather see Milan be rotten on the inside and the outside,w hich is what will happen if a bunch of incompetnt and lying Republicans get elected. They cant deny that Doherty gives a lot of money to Republicans. They take it and theyre in his pocket t. They plan to turn the town over to Red wing. then Milan will become a giant gravel pit with 18wheelers all over the roads. There go your property values, but Dohertymakes millions and rewards his friends.

Anonymous 1,2,5&6 must have had the lead in that movie "Sicko".

Dear Rolling eyes, I hope you are not a town board member with all those spelling errors! The current administration must be very be proud to have such hostile and narrow-minded people like you supporting them. You won't be able to comprehend this, but the gravel mine issue would have been long gone by now if not for the incompetence of your pals in Town Hall. Their "minor procedural errors" are what caused the comprehensive plan to become null and void by the NY State Supreme Court. So if Milan ends up with a gravel mine, look to the source of the incompetence - your Democratic Town Board.

Oh, what a night! It seems so long ago, that one can only imagine the days before we were all "saved" by the likes of Pauline Clark and Ross Williams.

We had a lovely town where most folks worked together to secure the rights and privacy of their neighbors. They have fear-mongered their way into the landscape claiming that all is lost without their new brand of "open" governance.

And, what is the form of "open government" that Van and the gang speak about? Does Open Government mean FOIL requests for simple documents, town meetings held in the middle of the day and curriers that are hired to rush hastily written laws to the Dept. of State in Albany? Does Open Government mean that people are prevented from adding to the record, because "Boss" Williams decides to pass what were local laws by resolution and therefore require no public input?

Does Open Government mean that our representatives can overspend the budget for frivolous lawsuits, cut and disapprove critical highway spending, bounce checks and recklessly approve expenditures all without seeing balanced financial statements? This isn't rocket science and there are basic tasks that must be accomplished.

Wetlands laws, comprehesive plans, zoning changes - they are, or can be, part of the effort of a local legislative body, however, it is the main responsibility of the town board to oversee the fiscal integrity of the town. To this end the current administration has failed miserably.

Another typical performance from those of you attempting to defend the incompetent Republican candidates you've put up. Instead of listening to the message, you attack the messenger. Poor spelling doesn't hide the facts. The Republican candidates tell lies, make wild charges but refuse to show the evidence they claim to have, and use vulgar language when talking to newspaper reporters. Dick "I'm a Lousy Real Estate Broker" Barrett shows in his own words that he doesn't understand the issues and can't control his temper. Is that who we want defending the town against a gravel mine? I'm not a town official. I'm just a 43-year Milan resident who doesn't want his property value to be ruined by gravel trucks roaring past my house on Academy Hill.
And by the way, appraiser bob, it's courier, not currier.

Maybe the Milan Town Board could impose another law upon us that would ban spelling errors. We really could use more regulation in our "rural" lives. We should create a permit fee to use bad grammar and use the proceeds to hire a spelling enforcement officer to police us. Non-compliant spellers beware! Better mind your P's and Q's!
